The Alternative Center has two components -- short-term and
long-term assignments. Short-term students are in attendance for
five or ten days. These students continue with the same assignments
as the students in the home school. Long-term students are assigned
for more than ten days and they have an educational program
developed for them at the Alternative Center.
This program improves the chances of success for students who
have more serious difficulties in school, at home, or in the
community. The goals are to address the student's needs as soon as
possible and to decrease the need for out-of-county residential
treatment for these students thus saving or reducing treatment
costs.
The Alternative Center provides a meaningful educational
environment for students who cannot achieve their educational goals
in a traditional setting. Students with negative behavior patterns
work to establish their own short-term and long-term goals.
Community support services are available and opportunities for
parental involvement help our students accomplish realistic goals.
